Positive Affirmations
Here are some facts about you: .
You are brave. You are strong. You are intelligent. You are beautiful. You are kind. You are awesome.
Sometimes it is hard to believe this, sometimes it's hard to stay positive. Especially when you are stuck inside all the time. This week is all about reminding yourself that you are all of these things - and more!

Junior Guide Challenge (5-10)
The Positivi-tree
It's easy to get stuck in things that are sad or scary - but every single day things happen that make you smile.
Things you need for this week:
1) One large piece of white paper (or a few small ones taped together)
2) Markers/Pencils/Pens
4) Coloured paper
5) Glue
6) A box or jar
One your white paper, draw a big tree trunk and branches. Then, cut leaf shapes out of your coloured paper (it doesn't have to be green!). Every day, whenever something makes you happy, pick up a leaf, write it down, and glue it to the branches of the tree.
Those things could be...
A funny joke. A cool bird you saw. Something you read in a book. The name of a friend who has been kind.
Even if you just feel good about being yourself! That's a wonderful thing to put on a leaf.
You are amazing, and you are surrounded by amazing things. So take notice, and build up your positivi-tree!
You can also have flowers, fruits, or even trefoils for your tree! Maybe your flowers should be where you write things that are really outstanding.
How big can your tree get? Try and "grow" your tree everyday, and whenever you are feeling down, look at your tree to remind you of how wonderful you, and the things around you are.
Here's an example from a class from DAA Elementary School's year 5 class...

Guide Challenge (10-14)
This weeks challenge is to find inspiration around you.
Get a journal or notebook, and fill it with inspiration and positivity.
Fill it with thoughts...
With Quotes...
With Ideas...
With Pictures...
With anything that makes you feel better, inspires you, or makes your day a little bit better.
Try and put something in it every day. Be it an affirmation (making a positive statement about yourself), a quote from a book, song or person, a random drawing, a photo of something (You can date every entry if you would like to remember when you put something in). You can also write in things like bucket lists, goals and plan and use the rest of your journal to inspire you to follow these.
Fill it with things that make you remember that you are a wonderful, and amazing person who can do wonderful and amazing things.
Whenever you are feeling down, look though your journal of good things, and see how it helps to read good things about yourself and what you can do.

These sorts of journals can be known as "bullet journals" - you don't have to make them as fancy as these ones, but maybe you can make your journal a project. Sometimes when you see the cool things you have done, if helps inspire you to do more.
You can also do something very simple if you prefer, it's totally up to you!
Here are some places you can find quotes to get you started... Some are also already done up as artworks, and you can copy the art style into your journal as well.

You might come across a quote during your day, or you can go searching. If you are feeling a certain way - or maybe the opposite - do a quick search for quotes (eg. bravery quotes) and see what inspires you.
You can also include your thoughts about a quote - what does it mean to you now? Why did you include it?
Next time you read that quote, you can look back on why you wrote it down, and you can reflect about what it means to you now.

Keeping a journal like this is a really great thing to have. You can use it to inspire yourself, or a friend if they are feeling down. You should try and continue to keep this journal, even longer than this week.
This quote from Louisa May Alcott (author of Little Women) is one of my favourite quotes, maybe you would like to include it in your journal. And always remember, that you are wonderful, powerful, brave, strong, intelligent and beautiful! |
Senior Guides (14+)
This week, you have two challenges:
Number 1 - Create a positivity journal (The Guide Challenge)
Number 2 - Believe those positive statements
It's one thing to write kind things about yourself, and read over them. But as we get older, we start convincing ourselves that they aren't true for us - maybe for other people, but not us. And that's not true.
As you start to create a positivity journal (or you might know this already), find something that you struggle to believe. Maybe you don't believe you are brave. Maybe you don't believe you are beautiful. Whatever it is, you should believe it because it is true!
Every morning, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that this thing is true;
"I am strong"
"I am beautiful"
If you can, leave yourself notes where you will see them, with these affirmations on them. Write "I am beautiful" on the mirror. "I am strong" on your bedroom door. Whatever it is that you need to believe.
Maybe you don't have something specific you want to tell yourself, so pick different affirmations, and scatter positive sticky notes around your bedroom or home.
And always remember, that you are wonderful, powerful, brave, strong, intelligent and beautiful!

A Service Idea...
Another great way to feel positivity - is to share it. Maybe leave some notes around the house for your family. Write a friend a letter, send them a home-made postcard, or just give them a call! Share with them some of your weeks positivity. Maybe it's a complement, or you are sharing an affirmation or quote with them. You never know how it might help someone!
